LESLIE CHARLES SETS NEW WORLD RECORD 1. She broke the disc golf world distance record for women age 65 and above. The former world record, held by an Australian woman, was 21.10 meters (69.22 feet). Leslie's throw was 56.69 meters, or 186 feet in length. In the parlance of this sport, she didn't just break the record; she “crushed” it! Leslie's record throw is now listed on the World Flying Disc Federation site (wfdf.org). This is her third year of playing disc golf and her second year of competition. 2. Leslie also won the Grand Master (ages 50 – 59) division trophy. There are no women in her age category who play disc golf, so Leslie “gets” to compete in a younger age division. Disc golf, sometimes called frisbee golf, is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States, with college level and professional tour players competing nationally and internationally. Leslie took up the sport to fill the void after giving up her lifelong hobby, horseback riding. She is convinced that if more people played disc golf (or stayed healthy playing other active sports) we would have less crankiness in this world. Read more from the Lansing City Pulse.
